PORTLAND, Ore., July 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Rentrak Corporation (NASDAQ:RENT), today announced the top ten movies-on-demand (VOD) titles based on consumer transaction rates. Movies-on-demand are transactional (pay-per-purchase) films available through cable and telco providers.

Comedy-themed films earned four out of ten slots on the Rentrak Top Ten Movies-OnDemand chart, with Action and Drama category features tied for the second most popular categories. PG-13 films dominated the chart with six out of ten titles, while the other four top performers were each rated R. Six of the top ten titles were involved in the Movies-On-Demand promotional campaign (which ran from March -June).

According to the company's OnDemand Essentials service, the top ten most-viewed titles, per data collected from January 1, 2010 through June 30, 2010 include:

On August 17, 2010, 2003's "War at the Warfield" and 2004's "Still Reigning" will be reissued, and, for the first time ever, 1995's "Live Intrusion," having been digitally remastered, will also be available on DVD. "I remember around 'God Hates Us All,'" [2001], said Slayer's Kerry King, "asking when we were going to make a DVD of 'Live Intrusion.' So, here we are, ten years later, and it's about time."

Every one of the Slayer live-in-concert DVDs represents a different era of the band: "Live Intrusion" was recorded on March 12, 1995 at the Mesa Amphitheatre in Mesa, AZ, and features guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, and drummer Paul Bostaph. The disc, which is certified Gold, includes some of the most classic Slayer songs such as "Raining Blood" and "War Ensemble," but also some early special tracks like "At Dawn They Sleep" and "Captor of Sin." As a bonus, Machine Head's Robb Flynn and Chris Kontos join the band on-stage for a cover of Venom's "Witching Hour." The opening of "Live Intrusion" features a look at some of the band's very unique fans, in particular, with special emphasis placed upon the fan from the mid-90s who had "Slayer" carved onto his forearm. In addition, the quality of "Live Intrusion" is high-end, as the original VHS master was located and used to create the DVD.

"War at the Warfield" was filmed at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco, CA on December 7, 2001, and like "Live Intrusion," features drummer Paul Bostaph, marking his last release with Slayer before original drummer, Dave Lombardo, rejoined the band. "Seasons in the Abyss," "Mandatory Suicide," and "Disciple" are some of the jewels on this live collection that debuted at #3 on Billboard's DVD chart, and has since been certified Gold.

Filmed at the Civic Center in Augusta, ME on July 11, 2004, "Still Reigning" - also Gold certified and voted Best Live DVD by the readers of Revolver magazine - was directed by Dean Karr and recreates Slayer's thrash/punk, 28-minute classic 1986 album "Reign In Blood" performed in its entirety. The end of the video features the "Wall of Blood," with the band, their instruments, and the stage completely drenched by a downpour of 150 liters of "blood."

"There was no dress rehearsal for the blood trick," explained King. "It was either going to work or it wasn't going to work, and we know it did work. It was so hard to play, I thought I was going to have to go back and overdub all of 'Reigning Blood,' but I listened to it and it was all there, it was just a lot more slippery with all the blood goo."

The "Still Reigning" DVD offers bonus material including live performances of Slayer staples such as "Hell Awaits," "Hallowed Point," Necrophiliac," "Spill the Blood," and "South of Heaven." The DVD also marked the return of drummer Dave Lombardo. "Even before the idea of 'Still Reigning' became a reality, I really wanted to do a video with Dave in it," said King, "and I knew the fans wanted that as well."

The Chicago Tribune's long-time pop music critic Greg Kot wrote that Slayer "is one of the great American rock bands of the last 30 years, forget about genre." Over the past near three-decades, Slayer has created some of thrash/metal's most enduring and influential recordings - 1986's "Reign In Blood," 1990's "Seasons in the Abyss," up to the band's latest, 2009's "World Painted Blood." Long-time fans will attest that nothing comes close to experiencing a Slayer show live and in the flesh; but there's no denying how the band's intensity and heaviness translates to these three killer DVDs.

Prop. 21 Essential to Halting Runaway Production; Protecting and Creating Jobs for Entertainment Industry

SACRAMENTO, Calif., July 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The campaign supporting Prop. 21,the Nov. 2 ballot measure that will provide a stable and adequate funding source for state parks and beaches, has announced growing support from the entertainment industry due to the importance of state parks and beaches in halting runaway film production.

Prop. 21 has received endorsements from film commissions stretching across the entire state, including the San Diego Film Commission, Sacramento Film Commission, Santa Cruz County Film Commission, Monterey County Film Commission, Mendocino County Film Office, Santa Barbara Film Commission and the Humboldt Film Commission. The film commissions are part of a growing list of entertainment industry groups supporting Prop. 21, which includes the Location Managers Guild of America.

"State parks are essential locations for film production and the jobs they create in California," said Cathy Anderson, San Diego Film Commission CEO. "Prop. 21 provides dedicated funding for state parks and beaches that is essential to stopping runaway film production. From electricians and truck drivers, to grips and caterers, Prop. 21 helps ensure that the entire spectrum of jobs created by film production stay in California."

According to a recent study by The Milken Institute, California has lost 36,000 jobs because of film and television productions leaving California for other locations. In 2009, more than 900 permits were granted for nearly 2,000 days of filming in California's state parks and beaches. Ranking as the most popular state-owned site for filming, state parks provide valuable locations that help keep the $57-billion U.S. film production industry, and the jobs it creates, from leaving California.

Chronic underfunding is starving state parks and has caused them to accumulate a $1.3 billion backlog in needed maintenance and repairs. Last year, nearly 150 state parks were shut down part-time or suffered deep service reductions because of budget cuts, and more park closure proposals and budget cuts are expected this year. Thousands of acres are closed to the public because of reductions in park rangers, and crime has nearly tripled. Destruction and vandalism of the parks themselves has grown fourfold, and beachgoers are often unprotected because of decreases in lifeguards.

Prop. 21 will provide California vehicles with free, year-round day-use access to state parks and beaches, in exchange for a new $18 surcharge. This new surcharge will be assessed as part of California's annual vehicle registration. Funds from the surcharge will be placed in a trust fund dedicated specifically to state parks and wildlife conservation, which cannot legally be used for other purposes.

The entertainment industry is one sector of a wide-ranging coalition of interests supporting Prop. 21. Other supporters include the California Travel Industry Association, The Nature Conservancy, California Teachers Association, California State Lifeguard Association, California State Park Rangers Association, California State Parks Foundation, National Wildlife Federation, California Action for Healthy Kids and Surfrider Foundation.
